Developments in the field of renewable energy sources all over the world have created a very competitive environment on the production side of the sector. With the incentives they give in renewable energy, states are trying to attract wind turbines and solar panels production facilities to be installed in giant power plants. Private companies are looking for a market advantage in the region where they will establish their production facilities. Since the production of solar panels has been realized at very high costs from the beginning of the 2000s, it has not been the choice of the end consumer for a long time. However, with the new technologies developed in the last 5 years, both the solar panel costs have decreased and the efficiency of these panels has increased. As such, the spread of solar panels has accelerated not only in power plants, but also on the roofs of homes and industrial plants. Ekore (Eko Renewable Energy) CEO Serhan Süzer explaining that the course of investments in the world will be largely around renewable energy in the coming period, said “In 2011, I left Süzer Group and focused entirely on sustainability and renewable energy. For this potential, we have established a state-of-the-art solar panel manufacturing factory in Niğde with an investment incentive of 4.2 billion TL. We will start production in 2020. Turkey has a huge potential in this area and competition is very high. However, China has dominated this market. 27 out of 35 international companies are Chinese. European firms are seeking alternative manufacturers for shots to Turkey should evaluate this opportunity. There is no reason not to become a production base in renewable energy.”
Süzer stated that they built the factory with an investment of 650 million dollars on an area of 620 thousand square meters allocated in the Boron Organized Industrial Zone in Niğde, and said “We are currently on the table with 7 foreign investors from the USA, Canada, Far East and Middle East. Some of them want to have a majority stake in the investment. But they want to do it through a European company. Since we have benefited from the Project-Based Investment Incentive System, we are expecting permission from the Ministry of Industry and Technology. However, even if there is no permit, the factory will start production under the same conditions. We want to build a team game to become the region’s renewable energy base.”
The solar cells and panels to be produced by Ekore from the silicon mine in Niğde are highly competitive. Because solar panels on the market have an average efficiency of 17-18 percent. The best quality of these is 21 percent. The efficiency of the panels to be produced in Niğde will be 23.5 percent and will be sold at 30 percent cheaper than the ones in the market. This is a great advantage compared to its competitors in China.
The factory in Niğde is planned to work for 500 thousand people. After the start of production, a sub-industry cluster will be formed around the factory for the solar sector. It is foreseen that approximately 3 thousand 500 people will work in the companies here.
Turkey is now a great hub for investments in renewable energy sector with its natural and labour potential. Conexio Energy is experienced in renewable energy market in Turkey with its professional team working in the region for several years.
