According to the data announced, in the third quarter of 2022, 74 startups received $97 million investment from 202 investors in the startup ecosystem of Turkey. With this quarter, 232 domestic enterprises have collected 1.49 billion dollars of investment so far in 2022.
The year 2022 has been a year in which Startup investments have decreased with the shrinking economies around the world and the change in interest policies. Although Turkey was not affected by this downward trend in the first half of the year, the global recession has taken its toll in the last 3 months. According to StartupCentrum data, in the third quarter of 2022, the number of investments decreased by about 18 percent from 91 to 74 compared to the previous quarter. The amount of investment, on the other hand, decreased by 15 percent from $114 million to $97 million.
In the shared data, it is seen that 85% of the 74 investments made in the last 3 months were realized at the seed stage. While 29.3 million dollars were invested in 63 investment rounds, the median investment was 339 thousand dollars.
In the last quarter, 4 startups received investment in advanced stages. While two of these startups received investment for the first time, they were Oplog and Encryption technologies, which provide end-to-end fulfillment services, and Procenne, which develops high-tech products in the field of digital security.
65% of startups (48 startups) that received investment in the last quarter received investment for the first time. The amount of investment made in the startups that received their first investment was realized in a wide range, ranging from 4 thousand dollars to 11 million dollars. In addition, the median investment amount of the startups that received their first investment in the last quarter is 230 thousand dollars.
When the announced data are analyzed, it is noteworthy that 28 percent of the 74 startups that received investment in the third quarter of 2022 had at least 1 female founding partner. These startups received a total investment of $25.2 million last quarter.
In the third quarter of 2022, the first three places in the sector distribution of the amount of funds were shared by the logistics, e-commerce and advanced material technologies sectors. Reaching the highest funding amount in the third quarter of 2022, 5 startups working in the logistics and supply chain vertical received an investment of 29.2 million dollars. Prominent initiatives were Logiwa, Oplog and Tirport.
When the centers of the enterprises that received investment in the third quarter of 2022 are examined, the expansion of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Turkey draws attention. When we look at the distribution of the centers of the enterprises that received investment in this quarter, it is seen that investments were made in 9 cities. While 53 of the 74 startups that received investment are located in Istanbul, the investment amount of the startups in Istanbul was 81.23 million dollars. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 9 enterprises and İzmir with 5 enterprises in the number of enterprises receiving investment by cities.
