While the efforts to bring the electric vehicle infrastructure to Turkey continue, the Ministry of Industry and Technology launched the “Fast Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles Grant Program” in Turkey.
While the market share of electric vehicles was 0.2 percent in 2012, it reached 8.3 percent with record sales last year. Thus, electric vehicles increased their market share 41 times in 10 years.Last year also saw the biggest annual growth of the last 10 years in electric vehicles.
China was the country where the most electric vehicle sales were recorded last year, with 3.4 million. Sales in China increased by 155 percent, or 2.06 million, compared to the previous year.
While 2.3 million electric vehicles were sold in Europe, this figure grew by 66% compared to 2020. While the USA ranks third with 735 thousand electric vehicle sales, 114 thousand 500 electric vehicles were sold in South Korea. Electric vehicle sales in Israel, Australia, India and Japan were over 10 thousand.
300 million lira grant support to fast charging stations in Turkey
While the efforts to bring the electric vehicle infrastructure to Turkey continue, the Ministry of Industry and Technology launched the “Fast Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles Grant Program” to enable entrepreneurs to invest in fast charging stations in order to establish the charging infrastructure of electric vehicles in Turkey.
Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, on his social media account, said, “We are determined to bring the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles to our country. Today, we opened the grant program with a budget of 300 million TL for the establishment of high-speed charging stations in 1560 different points of Turkey. Good luck to our investors.” announced by sharing. Investors will be able to apply to the program from the internet address “sarjdestek.sanayi.gov.tr” until June 15th.
According to the statement made by the Ministry, it is of great importance that the fast charging infrastructure reaches a minimum level in all regions in order to achieve the targeted rapid expansion of electric vehicles in Turkey.
It is estimated that 180,000 electric vehicles will be sold in 2025.
In the Mobility Vehicles and Technologies Roadmap prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, General Directorate of National Technology with the contribution of relevant public institutions and sector actors, a projection including 3 different scenarios for the development of electric vehicles in Turkey, as low, medium and high, was created.
Accordingly, in the high scenario in 2025, it is estimated that annual electric vehicle sales will be 180 thousand and electric vehicle stock will be 400 thousand. In the medium scenario, it is predicted that the annual sales of electric vehicles will be 120 thousand and the electric vehicle stock will be 270 thousand. In the low scenario, it is estimated that the annual electric vehicle sales will be around 65 thousand and the electric vehicle stock will be around 160 thousand.
According to the 2030 projection, annual electric vehicle sales in the high scenario is 580,000, electric vehicle stock is 2.5 million, in the medium scenario annual electric vehicle sales is 420,000, electric vehicle stock is 1.6 million, in the low scenario annual electric vehicle sales is 200 thousand, electric vehicle stock is predicted as 880 thousand.
