The National FotoVoltaico (FV) solar park, which has just under 5,000 megawatts of power, produced more electricity in August than ever before. For the first time, it exceeded the bar of one thousand gigawatt hours of production (produced 1,035 GWh, specifically). The increase in production (compared to August last year) is 28%. Simultaneously, the price of electricity has fallen in Spain, in August, by 30%. The operator of the national electricity system, Red Eléctrica, has on the table requests for access and connection to the network of new solar installations worth more than 100,000 megawatts. 44,100 already have access permission.
The increase in solar production in Spain, both photovoltaic and solar thermal, has been one of the factors that have led to the fall in the prices of Mibel «(Iberian electricity market). It is the analysis made by AleaSoft, a company specialized in forecasting prices, production, and energy demand. This increase was 28% with respect to what was generated by the national PV park in August 2018 and 8.5% with respect to what that park (which adds up to less than 5,000 megawatts of power) produced in July. The Mibel electricity market in Spain and Portugal ended the month of August with an average price of 44.96 euros per megawatt hour (€ / MWh), a low price compared to the high prices recorded at the end of August 2018. » Such is the difference with respect to August 2018 – they point out from AleaSoft – that the decrease (of 30%) represents the largest year-on-year decline so far this year.
Spain-based energy company Iberdrola is preparing to build a 590-megawatt solar power plant, the largest in Europe.
The company announced that it plans to realize the Francisco Pizarro solar project on 13 hectares in the Extremadura region of Spain.
According to the statement, the plant, which will be established with an investment of 300 million euros, will be completed in 2022 and will meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 375 thousand people. The company also aims to build solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 3,000 MW in Spain by 2022.
Iberdrola to build four new solar power plants with a total capacity of 250 MW in SpainIberdrola announced that it has approved four new photovoltaic projects in Castilla-La Mancha to strengthen investments in clean energy production in Spain. The total capacity of four new solar power plants will be 250MW. According to the statement, the company will build Romeral solar plant and Olmedilla solar plant with 50 MW each in Uclés and Valverdejo. It will also build a 50 MW Barcience GES in Toledo and a 100 MW Puertollano II solar plant in Ciudad Real. In the Puertollano II GES project, double-sided panels will be used and a 20MWh storage system will be installed.
