RENEWABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENTS IN TURKEY

The solar power plant, which Odunpazarı Municipality wanted to establish in Türkmentokat district in 2016 but was rejected at the Assembly Meeting, was brought to the agenda once the Municipality won the case. Preparing to continue with the increase in capacity in the previous 1 MW solar power plant project, Odunpazarı Municipality plans to establish and operate a «Solar Power Plant» with an installed capacity of 1811 kWe in an area of 53 thousand square meters in Eskişehir province, Odunpazarı District, Türkmentokat District. Within the scope of the project with a cost of 7 million lira, a 999 kWe plant was obtained from Eskişehir Environment and Urbanization Provincial Directorate to establish a Solar Power Plant with an installed power of 5,99 MWe on an area of registered land registered on behalf of Odunpazarı Municipality. In addition, it is planned to establish a plant with a capacity of 812 kWe and total installed power to be 1811 kWe.
History dating back to just 2014, the solar energy industry in Turkey, continues its growth by increasing investments starting with 40 MW of installed power. Solar Energy Industrialists and Industry Association (GENSED) President Halil Demirdağ said that the industry has made a good start in 2020 in the light of the developments, results achieved and projections. Stating that Turkey’s 6 thousand megawatts of solar capacity reached, Demirdag pointed out that only about 75 percent of the installed capacity increased in the last three years reaching 6 GW. Indicating that the sector has grown limited in the first half of 2019 due to the decrease in existing licensed projects and the implementation of a small number of licensed projects, Demirdağ made the following assessment: “In the second half of the year, the solar energy sector started to act with the release of the new unlicensed regulation covering roof applications, increases in electricity tariffs and granting an additional 3-month period to unlicensed projects. YEKA GES-3 (1000 MW capacity allocation for domestic goods in approximately 40 provinces in 10 MW parts) is expected to be published in a very short time. Demirdağ reminding that Turkey’s target for 100th anniversary is to reach 15 GW, “With the infrastructure and experience of the solar energy sector, we are ready for this, we can achieve this goal. The expectation of our sector is that the investments on solar energy continue and GES installations between 1.5-2 GW are carried out every year, and a market will be established to ensure the continuity of this installation capacity in the following years. If the expectations of the sector are fulfilled, this momentum continues without slowing down.”
Siemens Gamesa will provide a turbine for the 53 MW Kartal Wind Power Plant Project to be established in Eskişehir. According to the agreement reached with Callax Holding, SG 4.5-145 terrestrial (onshore) wind turbines with flexible power range will be used for the project. Siemens Gamesa Turkey officials said, SG 4.5-145 turbines, are developed to achieve maximum efficiency at locations with medium character wind conditions such as the general climate of Anatolia. Structured to be flexible and a range of 4.2-5.0 MW of electricity can be produced, these turbines are ordered for the first time in Turkey and the installation planned to be done in 2020. Siemens Gamesa also received a total order of 30 MW for the SG 3.4-132 Class IA turbines with 3.75 MW operation mode from Artıbir Energy Group. The installation of this turbine order in Turkey for the first 3.75 MW model to be made in 2020. This new project will be implemented in Turkey, in Izmir, Eskisehir, Canakkale and in the field in the middle and high wind conditions. Long-term service agreements were also signed for all of these orders, which were signed in the 4th quarter of fiscal 2019. Gamesa CEO of Siemens Turkey Ebru Çiçekliyurt said, a worldwide total of 2 GW of capacity in the terrestrial SG 4.5-145 turbines used in the project will be used for the first time in Turkey.
