TÜREB President İbrahim Erden stated that Turkey uses only 10 percent of its wind potential and that there are significant opportunities in the sector.
15% OF WIND INSTALLED POWER IS IN İZMİR
At the information meeting held at the beginning of the program, TÜREB President İbrahim Erden and İZKA Secretary General Dr. Mehmet Yavuz made presentations. Noting that Turkey has a wind installed capacity of 11,101 MW as of the end of 2021 and that wind meets 9.84 percent of our country’s electricity in 2021, TÜREB President Erden said that İzmir has a share of 1,890 MW in the total power. . Underlining that Turkey uses only 10 percent of its wind potential, İbrahim Erden said that greater use of domestic and national resources will create significant opportunities in reducing foreign dependency in the field of energy, meeting the needed electricity from clean energy sources, and creating new job and employment areas.
İZMİR WIND INDUSTRY EMPLIES 7,500 PEOPLE
Stating that there are 4 different blade factories, 7 different tower factories, 2 generator production facilities in Turkey, as well as dozens of industrial facilities where various production components used in the wind industry are produced, TÜREB President Erden said that Izmir is Turkey’s first blade, tower, wind turbine maintenance facility. and repair facility, wind turbine R&D Center and Nazel factory. “The turnover of our 73 industrial facilities included in TUREB’s Industry Inventory has reached 1 Billion Euros, and it is anticipated that more than 80 percent of this turnover comes from export activities. The companies operating in the wind industry in Izmir constitute approximately 85 percent of the total turnover of the Turkish wind industry and the Izmir wind industry employs 7,500 people as of 2020,» said Erden, and continued his briefing on the industrial facilities in Izmir: It is one of the few countries where a large turbine manufacturer is also active in terms of equipment production, sales and after-sales services. Siemens-Gamesa, Enercon, TPI Composites, GE-LM Wind Power, CS Wind production facilities; The maintenance and repair center of Nordex, GE and Enercon is in Izmir. In addition to global companies, many local companies such as Ateş Wind Power, Dirinler Döküm, GİMAS, Tibet Makine produce wind turbine equipment.”
SUGGESTIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WIND INDUSTRY
TÜREB President İbrahim Erden listed TÜREB’s suggestions for the development of the Turkish wind industry as follows:
– To allocate at least 3 GW of RES capacity per year both to ensure energy supply security and to support the industry.
– Developing support mechanisms to encourage companies in the wind industry to make new investments, and revising existing investment incentive practices in a way that includes other turbine components and offshore wind turbine components/parts, apart from some selected wind turbine components.
-Providing an important production infrastructure as an energy specialization region and port
